Spanish Rim
Hace un año, Carlos Salgado y yo (Raúl Monge) viajamos a Toronto para emprender una aventura increíble: Formar parte de Pacific Rim, la nueva y monstruosa película del monstruoso Guillermo del Toro.
Anteriormente, ya habíamos tenido la suerte de colaborar juntos en El laberinto del Fauno y Hellboy II (junto al gran Raúl Villares, que en esta ocasión se quedó en España comiendo bien), pero esta vez el proyecto era aun más grande y los 5 meses que estuvimos en la ciudad canadiense nos dieron una experiencia inolvidable.
Llegamos cuando aún no había nadie en la oficina y presenciamos la construcción de un equipo de diseño soñado por cualquier director de cine/humano que aprecie el arte.
Es increíble compartir opiniones con el mítico Óscar Chichoni, disfrutar de la grotesca bondad de Guy Davis, desarrollar el concept art de la película en la misma habitacion que Wayne Barlowe, cruzarte de camino a la cocina para picar algo con TyRuben Ellingson, intentar entender la incesante verborrea del artista Keith Thompson, admirar la dedicación y profesionalidad de Rob McCallum, intercambiar idiomas con el talentoso Hugo Martín y disfrutar del trabajo de Simon Webber, Allen Williams o David Meng.
Son muchos nombres e intentar explicar el trabajo que todos ellos reúnen es practicamente imposible. El animal que los ha reunido es Guillermo del Toro, un hombre que sabe mucho de cine y que disfruta aún más haciéndolo. Su mano derecha es Francisco Ruiz Velasco, un gran amigo que es capaz de reunir, distribuir, coordinar y mejorar el trabajo de todos los artistas mencionados anteriormente (tela).
Ahora sólo nos queda esperar un año más para que Pacific Rim se estrene en las salas de todo el mundo. Como aperitivo, AQUÍ tenéis la reciente sinopsis oficial de Warner Bros y Legendary Pictures.

A year ago, Carlos Salgado and I (Raúl Monge) traveled to Toronto to live an incredible adventure: being part of Pacific Rim, the new and monstrous movie from monstrous Guillermo del Toro.
Previously, we had been lucky enough to work together in Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy II (with the great Raul Villares, who this time stayed in Spain eating well), but this project was even bigger and the 5 months we spent in the Canadian city gave us an unforgettable experience.
We arrived when there was no one in the office and witnessed the construction of a design dream team for any filmmaker / human who appreciates art.
It’s amazing to share points of view with the legendary Óscar Chichoni, enjoy the grotesque goodness of Guy Davis, develop concept art of the film in the same room as Wayne Barlowe, bump in the way to the kitchen for a snack into TyRuben Ellingson, trying to understand the non-stopping chatter of artist Keith Thompson, admire the dedication and professionalism of Rob McCallum, exchange languages with the talented Hugo Martín and enjoy the work of Simon Webber, Allen Williams and David Meng.
So many names and to try and explain the work that they all do together is virtually impossible. The beast that has put all this together is Guillermo del Toro, a man who knows a lot about films and enjoys making them even more. His right hand is Francisco Ruiz Velasco, a great friend who is able to collect, distribute, coordinate and improve the work of all the artists mentioned above (incredible).
Now we just have to wait another year till Pacific Rim opens in theaters around the world. As an appetizer, here’s the recent official synopsis from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.
